Create Your Own 3D Character | Ages: 7 – 11 years old (6 week class)
Imagine designing your favorite cartoon or video game character — and then holding it in your hands! Kids can take inspiration from a character they like, or they can create something completely new. Students learn how to model simple 3D shapes, add features, and think about proportion, structure, and balance. Once the design is ready, they watch it come to life on the printer — layer by layer.
Build an Articulated Dragon | Ages: 12-16 years old (6 week class)
For students who love a challenge, this project introduces more complex design and engineering principles. Kids learn how to make a 3D-printed dragon that moves using articulated joints. We’ll discuss how hinges, connections, and geometry allow movement — applying physics and problem-solving skills in real time. It’s one of our most popular projects because it combines art, motion, and design into one fascinating build.
Each project gives students a sense of ownership and pride. They take home their creations and see what’s possible when imagination meets technology.
What Will I Need for 3D Printing Classes?
You don’t need prior experience — just curiosity and enthusiasm!
Students will need:
- Their brain, to imagine and problem-solve
- Their hands, to build and experiment
- A tablet or laptop and mouse, to design their projects
If you don’t have a laptop, we have a limited number available at the center. Just let us know in advance when registering.
We use Tinkercad, a free and beginner-friendly design software. Students can download and use it at home, allowing them to continue exploring and practicing outside of class and at home in Colorado Springs. It’s intuitive, visual, and made for young creators who want to learn 3D design at their own pace.
Our Technology: The Bambu Lab 3D Printer
At Elevate STEM Tutoring, we use a multi-color Bambu Lab printer — one of the most advanced 3D printers available for classes and educators. It can print in multiple colors simultaneously, allowing students to create detailed, vibrant models that look just like the ones they design on-screen.
However, the printer isn’t too complicated. It’s simple enough for students to say, “I understand how that works!” Plus, watching the Bambu Lab printer in action is part of the excitement — students get to see how digital designs transform into physical creations through layers of melted filament.

What does my kid need to bring?
Students should bring a tablet or laptop and mouse as we use Tinkercad software for design. If your child doesn’t have one of these devices, we have a limited number available—just let us know ahead of time. Beyond that, all they need is their creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn.
What ages can join?
